Duels
Duels are one-on-one fights between players. Whoever opens the room picks the rules, the rival accepts them and both watch the fight. It is a way to test yourself: nothing is wagered, won or lost.
One against one, with the rules the host picks. Nothing is won or lost
Where
Brannoc, duel masterDuels are set up with Brannoc, duel master, in Aurelia, on the grass northwest of the square. Get close to him (within about 5 tiles) and double-click, or press E, to open the duels window.
How it works
- Browse open rooms: the first tab lists the rooms waiting for a rival, with the host's level and rules. Pick one and press Join.
- Or open your own: in the Create room tab you choose the rules and press Open room. You wait inside until someone joins.
- Join with a code: a private room is not on the list. The host sees its code and shares it with you; type it in the rooms tab and press Join with code.
- Both confirm: inside you see your rival (name, level, class and look) and the rules. Once both of you confirm, the fight starts.
- Watch the fight: the duel is settled at once and both of you watch it in the battle scene, blow by blow, until the winner is known.
- A room expires after 10 minutes if nobody fights in it.
- You can only be in one room at a time. The host can kick the rival before confirming; if the host leaves, the room closes.
- You can also challenge someone without going to the Master: right-click their character and choose Challenge to a duel. If they accept within a minute, you fight right away with the default rules and, when it ends, each of you is right where you were. Neither of you can be in an activity.
- You cannot fight another character from your own account.
- Under Latest duels, in the same window, you can rewatch anyone's recent fights.
The rules
They all start off: if you touch nothing, everyone fights with everything they carry. Every rule you pick applies to both.
| Rule | What it does | Options |
|---|---|---|
| No spells | Nobody casts spells or shouts: only the weapon strikes. | |
| No potions | Nobody drinks potions during the fight. | |
| No food | The food effects each fighter has active do not count. | |
| No pets | Spells are allowed, but not the ones that summon a beast. | |
| Level difference | The largest level difference allowed between the two. A rival further apart cannot join. | Any · ±3 levels · ±5 levels · ±10 levels · ±20 levels |
| Minimum level / Maximum level | The level you need to join the room, from and up to. | Any |
| Format | A single fight or a series of up to three rounds. | Single fight · Best of 3 |
| Private room (with code) | The room is not listed: only someone with the code can join. | 5-letter code |
| Arena | Where the fight is shown. It is only the scenery: it changes nothing in combat. | 8 |
One fight or best of three
- One fight: whoever brings the other to zero health wins.
- Best of three: the first to take two rounds wins; if someone wins the first two, there is no third.
- Every round starts with full health and mana.
- Potions count for the whole duel: one you drink in a round is gone for the next.
What is at stake
A duel changes nothing outside the room. It is a way to test yourself against other players.
- No gold or items are wagered, and the winner takes nothing.
- The loser loses nothing: no gold, no gear, no experience.
- Gear does not wear out and the potions you drink are not taken from your backpack.
- Everyone fights as they are: their level, class, gear, spells and the potions they carry.
Before a duel, test your build against a dummy in the Training yard.
